About me

I am a Ph.D. candidate at the Georgia Institute of Technology. My research proposal is related to the field of Wide Area Monitoring Systems (WAMS), which through the use of synchronized measurements, can automate the process of network state estimation and increase the awareness of the power grid operator, helping to predict and prevent the occurrence of system blackouts.

I have received my M.Sc. in Electrical Power Systems Engineering from University of Manchester, where as part of my thesis project, I performed research on the development of a testing platform for the assessment of Wide Area Monitoring Systems. During my M.Sc. study, I volunteered as a student representative and worked closely with faculty and students to improve their study experience at University of Manchester.

I received my Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from “Politehnica” University of Bucharest. During my undergraduate studies I have completed intensive research in the field of automated measurement systems. My research results have been published and presented in IEEE Conference Proceedings and Journals. For example, I have received the Best Undergraduate Student Paper Award at the IEEE I2MTC 2009 conference for the paper: “Online measurements and control of a laboratory scale dc grid.”

Eager to offer my time, energy and expertise to help other students, I volunteered as a Student Representative for the IEEE I&M Society’s Administrative Committee (AdCom) for three years. I recently co-chaired an event for graduate students at the IEEE I2MTC 2011 conference and I am presently developing an educational piece of software meant to automate the process of taking measured data online.
